Taking Risks: Finding What is Best for You!

Greetings!
As responsibilities and activities in my life start to re-develop, I have been somewhat, “slackish” on my website and blog posts. I would like to thank all the people who comment and subscribe (I truly appreciate all your support), and apologize for the recent lackadaisical attitude. Now on to the post…
How do you know your following your heart and choosing what is best for you? When do you know to leave a certain situation to seek better opportunities both professionally and personally? I have asked myself these questions, more than once in the past few months. Here are a few tips that walked me through a positive transition:
- Find what motivates you, then go after it! Sometimes it takes people years to find their niche or area of specialty. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself on what inspires you- day in, day out.
- Break those Excuses: Never make excuses for yourself. People get comfortable with situations. Regardless if the situation or activity provides a positive or negative outcome in their lives, it is sometimes human nature that tells us to stay comfortable. Don’t be afraid to ask yourself, “Is this the job I can’t wait to get out of bed for in the morning?”
- Never hesitate to take a break to learn. As companies strive to consolidate job responsibilities for certain positions, it’s always good to to stay sharp. I encourage you to set goals for yourself as your career progresses through it’s changes. Say to yourself, ” I want to strive to learn this new technology or aspect of the company, in the first 6 months of my position.” Although certain duties might fall outside the scope of your position, do not hesitate to investigate or do some after hours research.
- No one is perfect. Ask for help. The “I-don’t-ask-questions” attitude does not help you, nor the people around you. Asking questions helps you balance what you need help on, and defines your core competencies. If you are hesitant to ask, you are probably even more hesitant to learn.
I hope these tips add clarity in breaking down your walls of security, and going after your dreams. It truly has helped me. I should be back in a few days for another post.
Happy Reading,
Taylor

Amen to that.
I’ve never had a “plan” per se, but continuously following my heart (and all its changes) has gotten me pretty far. Congrats on the new job!
P.S. I forgot to reply but your cover of “I’m Yours” is amazing… (I know, and it’s not even Billy Ray!!!) I hope you’ll do the full song on Seesmic soon!
